Torngat Metals is proud to announce the signing of a Pre-Development Agreement (PDA) with the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach as part of the Strange Lake rare earth project.
The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that exploration and pre-development activities are carried out with full respect for the Naskapi traditional territory, the environment, and local wildlife. Concrete measures are planned, including commitments relating to the protection of the George River caribou herd.
The agreement also provides mechanisms to ensure the Naskapi Nation’s active participation, including a joint oversight committee to plan and supervise activities and a Land Guardians program to maintain a continuous community presence on the ground.
Beyond environmental protection, the agreement paves the way for positive community outcomes, particularly in employment, training, and skills development.
This agreement reflects Torngat Metals’ broader commitment to working collaboratively with Indigenous communities. The company aims to establish similar agreements with other communities in order to build, together, a model of sustainable mining development that respects territories, cultures, and traditional knowledge.
